Cultivating Internal Cohesion: Integrating IFS + EMDR with Dissociative Clients

Date: Friday January 31, 2025 9am-5pm PST

This comprehensive training course is designed to equip mental
health professionals with the advanced skills necessary to effectively
integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and Eye Movement
Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy when working with clients who experience dissociation. Dissociative clients often present unique challenges, requiring a nuanced and integrated approach to therapy.

Participants will gain a deep understanding of how to apply the principles of IFS and EMDR in a cohesive manner, tailored specifically to the needs of
dissociative clients.

Key topics covered in this training include:

1. Understanding Dissociation: Participants will explore the various
manifestations of dissociation, including its neurobiological basis,
different types, and how it impacts the individual's functioning and
daily life.

2. Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy: Participants will learn how to
identify and work with different parts of the self, including protective
parts and exiled parts, to facilitate internal cohesion, self-leadership,
and healing.

3. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy:
Application of the 8-stage model will be integrated with IFS language.
Special emphasis will be placed on adapting EMDR techniques to meet
the specific needs of dissociative clients, including safety precautions
and stabilization techniques.

4. Integration of IFS and EMDR: Participants will learn how to seamlessly
integrate IFS and EMDR approaches in clinical practice, leveraging the
strengths of each modality to enhance therapeutic outcomes for
dissociative clients. Special attention will be given to addressing
potential challenges and navigating complex clinical scenarios.

5. Ethical Considerations: Participants will explore ethical considerations
when working with dissociative clients, including issues of safety,
boundaries, and therapist self-care

This training is suitable for licensed and pre-licensed mental health
professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, and marriage and family therapists, who have a foundational understanding of IFS and EMDR therapies. By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide more effective and integrative therapy to dissociative clients, fostering internal cohesion and promoting healing and growth.

Please note, this is an advanced level training that assumes participants has existing training in both EMDR and IFS. The foundations of these modalities will not be included. Additionally, participants will be assumed to have foundational training in working with dissociative disorders, specifically Other-Specified Dissociative Disorders (OSDD) and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
